The app contains all the resources cooks need, in the how to department. It is indeed a boon to cooks, both novice and professional alike. What Canadian joy users may not appreciate is that the recipes require weighing of baking ingredients. To save time, you may want to close the app and open your paper version of Joy Of Cooking. It would have been a slamdunk, but something tells me that this was made as one app for the world market. Were used to weighing baked ingredients for European recipes, and in truth, it isnt any more or less difficult. However, when the paper edition of joy is handy in my kitchen, the temptation is too great to go back to the old ways. If you like or prefer weighing your baking ingredients, then I would highly recommend this app for you.
One thing I can guarantee: you regret having purchased this book. Not only does it have great recipes, it includes useful information for beginners and even those comfortable in the kitchen. It has timers, tips, its great. No, its spectacular!
Just blown away by this App! It has all the feature of the hard cover book, without the oil stains! Cant wait to use it! AWESOME! Its a gotta have for anyone who lives the Joy!
Wow, am I impressed. This was the very first cookbook I ever used, and its a joy (word intended) to see it here on my iPad. The app designers have clearly put a huge amount of thought and work into adapting this classic to its new digital format. Kudos!
If you like Joy, youll love this!
Im really enjoying this app, its well laid out and easy to use. A must for anyone starting out in the kitchen and it wont disappoint long terms fans of the cookbooks.
The app Ive been waiting for!
This app was recently offered at a reduced price of $2.99. Tapping to buy however, "switched" the price from $2.99, to its full price of $5.99. Not that big of a deal to me, as I still think that $5.99 is worth it ... But if the displayed cost in the App Store says $2.99, then you should probably charge that much instead of changing the displayed cost once the user taps on the "Buy" button. Perhaps it was just a glitch, but either way ... Reduced my buying "experience" for this app, so Im taking a star off for that. Other star off for a one-time crash while browsing recipes shortly after first-time launch.
Great app, looooonnng overdue!. J of C is a staple in my kitchen, and now, along with the Bittmans, a terrific addition to my iPad cooking. Wouldnt be without it!
So amazing! Every recipe is in this! Even for holidays!
Im a chef. Stuck for an idea? Look something up in this and start modifying, feeling safe youve got a solid base. These are recipes that work and are so well laid out, you can make most of them just by paying attention to the detailed instructions, no matter your skill level. If you want to start cooking, this is the place to start. All the basics are covered and more than that, there are sections explaining how and why you do what you do. My mom had this book on her shelf when I was a kid and my first cookies may have ended up as birds food but they were from this book (it wasnt the recipes fault). If you cook, or want to, or have to make a dinner for someone and have no idea what youre doing, Joy of Cooking will help.
As a beginner to professional this is the app for you! A lot of work put into this app! Excellent recipes (all that I have tried anyway), & very informative. Well thought out, easy to use; I especially appreciated the shopping list feature. And the timer is a wonderful addition. Well worth the price!
So true its the best recipe app ever I love how it clearly talks to you while you work its brilliant
A joy to use. I would have given it a fifth star if we had the possibility of adding a bookmark on any page, including lists, and not just recipe pages.
This app costs a fraction of the price of the book and offers a ton of features. Easily the most useful recipe book in the AppStore!
Are you serious!!! Mlitres, grams, cups and tablespoon measurements all in the same recipe. (See white bread) That is absurd. What a useless book. Very painful to use. There should be a way to set the measurements.
This is an awesome digitizations of an up-to-date classic! Two things would make it perfect: 1. Ability to set timers without first clicking on the time in a recipe. Timers should also be custom name-able. 2. When returning to the app after an extended absence, it should pick up where I left off. It appears to try, then resets to the main screen. Other than that, this is awesome!
Joy is my favourite paper cookbook, my go to for basic knowledge. So thrilled that the app is also awesome. I love the cross referencing. I love that the design is well thought out. Its easy to use while cooking. I just saw an update for Thanksgiving. My only suggestion for the future is that perhaps this kind of update go out in time for Canadian Thanksgiving. Its much earlier, but we love Joy too.
Im a student and just learning how to cook. Its so great and everything is so easy to access whenever you have a question :) love it!!!
